Gravity Bongs: The Basics

Monday, 30 November 2015

We’ve said this a bunch of times on this site, but it’s always worth repeating because of how true it is: the enthusiast world is always growing and evolving. With that growth and evolution comes new ways to enjoy your herb and that usually inspires further growth and evolution in the community. One of the newest ways to enjoy your herb is the gravity bong. What this is and how it works can seem pretty confusing to some, so this post is to help all the enthusiasts out there who want to know what this new way to smoke is and what it’s all about. Today, we’ll be teaching all you readers the basics of gravity bongs.

What Is A Gravity Bong?

It can be almost anything in terms of what it’s made of and the shape, but essentially it’a a bong that relies on gravity to milk it. Once it’s been milked, you can clear the bong and enjoy all the smoke that gravity provided you with. Gravity bongs were first made out of pop bottles, and to this day they still all either are made out of drink bottles or made to look like they were once drink bottles, but the principle in the end is still essentially the same.

How Does A Gravity Bong Work?

Like we mentioned in the last section, gravity bongs work by using gravity to the user’s advantage. To make this easy to understand, we’ll talk about the ones that use water to explain how they work. Imagine you have a pop bottle that’s filled with water with the cap off and you poke a nice big hole in the bottom. As the water drains out, the bottle pulls air in from the top of the bottle that fills in the space where the water was. If you were to put a bowl in the top of the bottle, then light it as the water drained, the bottle would pull air into the bottle through the bowl like someone was milking a bong and the bottle would fill with smoke. Once the water is drained out, just pull out the bowl and breathe in the goodness! It’s that simple! All you need to do is put a bowl in the cap, light it, then find a way to create a vacuum inside the bottle that will draw the smoke in so you can enjoy it when the vacuum effect stops.

What’s the Difference Between A Gravity Bong and Normal Bongs?

Not much except that with a gravity bong you don’t have to do the job of milking it because gravity does it for you. It’s like a bong for lazy people, so it’s instantly more appealing. If you already like bongs, this will be a great new way to enjoy your favorite herbs!
